Tapes carrying footage on how the security forces conducted the war against the LTTE in the Eelam War IV captured by the Rupavahini Corporation journalists assigned to provide frontline coverage that went missing soon after the war has surfaced in Italy, Lanka News Web learns. The CID is currently conducting an investigation to find the tapes that went missing from Rupavahini.
It is learnt that the video footage had reached Italy through a video store down the lane near the Bo Tree in Pettah and a senior journalist who was in the forefront in reporting on the war at the time is a shareholder of the respective video store.
Although the CID has uncovered details about this individual, CID sleuths have been prevented from questioning him by a higher authority.
Various racketeers are currently profiting by selling doctored tapes supposedly carrying video footage of the final war, especially since footage captured during the final phase of the war is considered important to determine on the alleged war crimes.
While it is learnt that some racketeers had even sold such video footage to organizations on human rights for millions of rupees, an international human rights activist told Lanka News Web that there is a plan to mix the real video footage with doctored tapes in order to hamper the investigations in to the alleged war crimes committed during the final phase of the war.
