At the moment a new political situation has been created in the country. Like at the presidential election Idi Mahin's acts of violence are being carried out at the upcoming general election as well. However, we are taking measures to defeat such suppressive conditions and are moving along a new journey with new hopes. This alliance has alrady won the confidence of the people as the pinnacle of justice and fairness," said General Secretary of Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Vijithe Herath.

Addressing a press conference held at the head office of the DNA today (28th) morning Mr. Herath said, "The Democratic National Alliance has handed over nominations to all 22 districts  to contest the general election from the symbol 'Trophy.' These nominations have been accepted without any objections. We have given nominations to 22 Tamil candidates, 21 Muslim candidates and 11 women. We have put forward a woman to contest Batticaloa. There are many intelecuals in our national list. A former vice-chancellor of Sri Jayawardenepura University, a professor from University of Moratuwa, also a lecturer of Universityof Aesthetics Chandragupthe Thenuwara, Lecturer of University of Ruhuna Jinesena Hewage, Lecturer on Human Rights Karunarathne Herath and renowned artist Suwanitha Weerasinghe and several other intellectuals and scholars have joined us and have been included in our national list.

We'd like to tell the masses that the health sector in this country has deteriorated. The education sector has become an area which deceives our children. The governemnt has not been able to fulfill at least one third of the requirements of the people in the country. The cost of essential items has gone sky high. The price of gas would go up from tomorrow. the governemnt has lost the GSP facility even when there is no war in the country.  This was due to making jounalists disappear and the undemocratic path of the goveremnt. Without fulfilling at least one third of the requirements of the people the government is asking for a two thirds majority. This government is following the path trodded by JR Jayawardene. The undemocratic programme could be carreid out more efficiantly then.

We launched this alliance to put a halt to this undemocratic move. However, the leader of this alliance has been imprisoned. We use this election as a people's court. We believe the people in this country would express their gratitude to him. An opportunity has come for the masses in this country to pay their gratitude to the heroic commander who liberated the Nation from terrorism. At this election cast your first preference for justice. Cast your vote to Gen. Sarath Fonseka and pay your gratitude to him. We call upon members of all political parties to cast your first preference to Gen. Sarath Fonseka, who is being imprisoned  for struggling for justice and fairplay and make him first in the preference list."

Several leaders supporting DNA including Ms. Anoma Fonseka and Arjuna Ranatunga, contesting Kalutara District from DNA were present.
