Lankaenews website under threat again
The threats on the Lankaenews website have recommenced with the government now receiving the cooperation of the landlord of the office premises rented out by the website.
The landlord had arrived at the Lankaenews office yesterday and had asked the staff to immediately vacate his premises and had disconnected the telephone lines and padlocked the entrance gate.
News Editor of the website, Bennet Rupasinghe had lodged a complaint with the Welikada Police saying that the landlord had asked the website staff to move out of the premises even before the lease agreement lapsed and had threatened the staff and disconnected all communication lines of the office.
Rupasinghe has told the media that while the website had continuously made the necessary rent payments to the land lord for the past 12 years and that the sudden change in the land lord is nothing short of a political manipulation.
In this backdrop, the Lankaenews website is left without with any internet, fax or telephone facilities.
Lankaenews website has been under constant threat from the government and its Editor, Sandaruwan Senadheera has even left the country due to the threats on his life. It is now 136 days since journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, who was attached to the website, has gone missing.
